Fukaya Cinema 深谷シネマ
Japan's only cinema in a converted sake brewery, a 60-seat community theatre on the old Nakasendo road in Fukaya.
About
Fukaya Cinema is run by a citizens' non-profit and occupies part of the former Nanatsume sake brewery along the old Nakasendo highway. It screens three or four films a day, mostly arthouse and independent titles, and has a free soundproof parent-and-child room. The brewery grounds also hold cafes and a second-hand bookshop. Foreign films are normally screened in the original language with Japanese subtitles (look for 字幕 on the schedule, not 吹替 = dubbed); Japanese films are usually shown without English subtitles.
