About
Kawagoe supplied Edo with goods and its merchants grew rich enough to build fireproof kurazukuri shops with thick black clay walls. A few hundred metres of them survive on Ichibangai street. Today they house sweet shops, eel restaurants and craft stores. It is the main reason people call Kawagoe 'Little Edo'.
