Opened in 2023, the futuristic underground extension of JR Osaka Station: Haruka and Kuroshio trains now stop in Umeda, under a platform with full-height digital doors that change displays as trains arrive.
About
For decades the Haruka airport express ran through Umeda without stopping. Since March 2023 it calls at new underground platforms 21-24 beneath the Umekita (Grand Green) district, reached by the Umekita gates or a long passage from the main station. The platforms showcase JR West's "full-screen" platform doors that shift and display digital signage, and the Umekita ticket gates were among the first to trial face-recognition ticketing. For travellers it means direct, seat-guaranteed Haruka service between Umeda and KIX.
