About

Mount Kongo is the main peak of the Kongo-Katsuragi range on the Osaka-Nara border. The most popular route, the Chihaya main trail, climbs stone and log steps from the Kongo Tozanguchi bus stop past the ruins of Chihaya Castle, where Kusunoki Masashige held out against Kamakura shogunate forces. Near the top are Katsuragi Shrine and Tenporin-ji, said to have been founded by En no Gyoja.
