About

This prefectural museum covers Japan's Kofun period, when huge keyhole-shaped tombs were built for rulers. Tadao Ando designed the building as a giant stepped terrace you can climb, especially striking in plum-blossom season. Inside, a large model of the Daisen Kofun and excavated armour and grave goods are shown. The surrounding Chikatsu Asuka Fudoki Hill park has about 40 tombs you can walk into.
