Genroku Sushi Sennichimae 元禄寿司 千日前店
Eat at the chain that invented conveyor belt sushi: Genroku's founder built the first kaiten belt in Osaka in 1958, inspired by a beer factory. Cheap, cheerful and historic.
About
Yoshiaki Shiraishi opened the first conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Higashi-Osaka in 1958 after watching bottles move on a brewery production line. Genroku Sushi still runs a handful of shops, and the Sennichimae branch in Namba is the most convenient for visitors. The sushi is straightforward, cheap and fun, with plates going around a classic belt rather than touchscreen express lanes. Come for the history and the retro, no-frills feel.
