About

Yoshimine-dera is a Tendai temple spread across terraces on the slopes of Nishiyama, number 20 on the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage. Its best-known feature is Yuryu-no-Matsu, a pine trained to spread horizontally for tens of metres. Paths climb past halls, a tahoto pagoda and seasonal flowers to viewpoints over the Kyoto basin. Getting there takes effort, which keeps crowds down.
