Okazaki Park 岡崎公園
Kyoto's cultural park district around Heian Shrine's giant torii, home to museums, the zoo, the Lake Biwa Canal and open lawns.
About
Okazaki Park was developed after the 1895 National Industrial Exposition, and the area around it is now Kyoto's museum quarter. The park's lawns and plazas sit in front of Heian Shrine and are framed by the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern Art, ROHM Theatre Kyoto and the Kyoto City Zoo. The Lake Biwa Canal curves around the south side, lined with cherry trees and used by sightseeing boats in spring. Weekend markets and events are often held on the main lawn.
