Shopping Street · Nijo / Horikawa
Kyoto Sanjo-kai Shopping Street 京都三条会商店街
An 800 m covered local shopping arcade west of Horikawa with around 180 shops: butchers, croquette stands, tofu shops and diners for the neighbourhood. Real everyday Kyoto.
About
Sanjo-kai is one of Kyoto's longest arcades and remains firmly local, serving the residential area between Nijo Castle and Omiya. Expect fresh tofu, pickles, sweets, butchers selling hot croquettes, old-style cafes, inexpensive lunch spots and a few trendy bakeries and bars that have moved in. It is close to Nijo Castle and Shinsengumi-linked Mibu-dera, and a good place to see how Kyotoites actually shop.
