Kaikado Cafe Kaikado Café
The cafe of Kaikado, makers of hand-crafted metal tea caddies since 1875, set in a 1927 former tram company building by the Kamogawa. Coffee, tea and craftsmanship on display.
About
Kaikado is famous for airtight tea caddies of tin, brass and copper that develop a lovely patina over decades. Its cafe occupies a 1927 building that once housed the city's tram company offices, restored with high ceilings, original windows and furniture from Danish and Kyoto makers. Drinks are served with tableware from Kyoto craftspeople, and Kaikado caddies are displayed and sold. The workshop shop itself is a few minutes away; both are a short walk from Shichijo Station.
