Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen がんこ 高瀬川二条苑
Kaiseki, sushi and tempura in the former villa of a 17th-century merchant, whose garden is fed by the very source of the Takase canal. A garden walk is included with your meal.
Kaiseki dinner: ¥8,000
About
This estate once belonged to Suminokura Ryoi, the merchant who dug the Takasegawa canal in 1611, and later to Meiji statesman Yamagata Aritomo. The stroll garden, with a stream that becomes the Takasegawa, is open to diners. The restaurant is part of the Ganko chain, so menus are accessible and varied: kaiseki sets, sushi, tempura and shabu-shabu, with options for all budgets. It is a good-value way to dine in a historic garden setting in the middle of downtown.
