Makuhari Beach (Makuhari Seaside Park) 幕張の浜
A long man-made beach beside ZOZO Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe, popular for sunset walks with Mount Fuji silhouetted across Tokyo Bay; swimming is banned.
About
Makuhari no Hama is a 1.2 km artificial beach on Tokyo Bay, part of Makuhari Seaside Park and next to the ZOZO Marine Stadium. Swimming has been prohibited since 2000 because of sand loss and dangerous currents near the jetties, but the beach is a favourite for walks, beach sports and especially sunsets, with the Tokyo skyline and, on clear winter days, Mount Fuji across the water. The beach hosts outdoor events and music festivals, and the park behind it has lawns and a Japanese garden.
Highlights
- Sunset over Tokyo Bay with Mount Fuji on clear winter days
- Next to ZOZO Marine Stadium, home of the Chiba Lotte Marines
- Long sandy shore for walks and beach sports
- Seaside Park lawns and a Japanese garden behind the beach
Tips
- Swimming is banned; stay away from the jetties, where the water is deep and fatal accidents have occurred.
- Some sections are closed due to erosion: follow the signs.
- Pair with a Marines game in summer and stay for the sunset.
- Kaihin-Makuhari Station is 15 minutes away on foot.
