About

Ichikawa was a favourite suburban retreat for writers: Kafu Nagai spent his last years here and died in Yawata in 1959, while the screenwriter Yoko Mizuki, the poet Hakushu Kitahara and Rohan Kodas daughter Aya Koda also lived in the city. The Literature Museum occupies part of the Ichikawa Lifelong Learning Center near Motoyawata and presents these figures through manuscripts, photographs and large touch-screen panels in the free main exhibition. Paid special exhibitions rotate several times a year, and the attached library makes it a quiet place to linger. It stays open into the evening on weekdays, unusual for a museum.
