About
Gyotoku was the river port where boats from Edo landed travellers heading to Naritasan, and this 4-metre stone lantern was erected by Edo merchants' guilds to guide them. It stands on the riverbank in a small landscaped plaza; frame it against the Edogawa at sunset, or at night when it is softly lit. The surrounding Gyotoku old town has several old temples.
