About

Yuigahama is the centre of Kamakuras three swimming beaches and the closest to the towns shrines and temples. A wide crescent of grey-brown sand faces Sagami Bay, with Enoshima on the horizon to the west and, on clear days, Mount Fuji behind it. During the official swimming season (July 1 to August 31 in recent years, about 9:00 to 17:00) the shore fills with umi no ie beach huts selling food, drinks, showers and lockers, and lifeguards patrol marked areas. Outside summer it becomes a local hangout for windsurfers, SUP paddlers, dog walkers and people eating takeaway from the shops along Wakamiya-oji. It is an easy add-on to a Kamakura temple day: walk down from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu or ride the Enoden one stop.
