About

Kannonzaki juts out from the Miura Peninsula at the entrance to Tokyo Bay, where the bay narrows to around 7 km and hundreds of ships pass every day. The prefectural park covers the forested headland with trails to old fortification ruins, and the Kannonzaki Lighthouse stands on the site of Japans first Western-style lighthouse, built in 1869. Below are small rocky beaches and coves good for tide pools, and a seaside promenade with views of the Boso Peninsula. The Yokosuka Museum of Art, with its glass building set against the sea, is next door.
