Cinema Jack & Betty シネマ・ジャック&ベティ
Two-screen Yokohama mini-theatre, named after an old English textbook, that champions new indie talent; Time Out's world top 100.
About
When the single-screen Yokohama Meigaza was split in two in 1991, the halls were renamed Jack and Betty after characters in an English textbook. Today the cinema mixes independent premieres with revival screenings and supported Ryusuke Hamaguchi's work long before his Oscar. Time Out ranked it No. 90 among the world's 100 greatest cinemas in 2026. Foreign films are normally screened in the original language with Japanese subtitles (look for 字幕 on the schedule, not 吹替 = dubbed); Japanese films are usually shown without English subtitles.
