About

Zenpukuji Pond, one of the three great spring-fed ponds of the Musashino plateau along with Inokashira and Sanpoji, is the source of the Zenpukuji River. The park has an upper and lower pond linked by wooded banks of zelkova and cherry. There is a small shrine island, a boat house with rowing boats on the upper pond, and footpaths popular with joggers and birdwatchers looking for kingfishers. Since there are no cafés lining the shore and no queues, it feels like a well-kept local secret. It is lovely in cherry-blossom season without the crowds, and in November the trees around the water glow red and gold.
