Yanaka Hebimichi (Snake Lane) へび道
A narrow, snaking lane on the border of Yanaka and Sendagi that follows a buried river, lined with old houses, potted plants and tiny shops.
About
Hebimichi winds along the course of the former Aizome River between Yanaka 2-chome and Sendagi 2-chome, curving so often that you can never see more than a few dozen metres ahead. Stand at one of the bends and shoot along the curve so the walls, plant pots and wooden houses lead the eye around the corner. Soft morning or overcast light is best in the shaded lane, and a bicycle or cat passing through adds life. It is a residential street: no tripods, keep voices down, and do not photograph inside homes or people's gardens.
