About

Taimeiken has served yoshoku, the Japanese take on Western food, since 1931. Yoshoku dishes such as omurice, curry rice, croquettes and hamburg steak grew up in Tokyo between the wars, and Taimeiken became one of its best-known names. Its most famous plate is the 'Tampopo omurice', an omelette laid on chicken rice and sliced open so that it spills over, which was created for director Itami Jūzō's 1985 food film 'Tampopo'. Nihonbashi redevelopment forced a move in 2020, and the restaurant reopened in a new building in Nihonbashi-Muromachi in April 2021. The casual ground floor serves the classics; upstairs is a more formal dining room.
