Shinjuku Suehirotei Facade 新宿末廣亭
The wooden facade of a traditional rakugo comedy hall, hung with paper lanterns and performer name boards, an old-Tokyo frame in modern Shinjuku 3-chome.
About
Stand across Suehiro-dori and shoot the whole frontage: dark timber, a tiled roof, rows of red and white lanterns and wooden boards painted with the names of the day's performers. It is one of the last old-style yose comedy halls in Tokyo and the building has been here in this form since the post-war years. Dusk, when the lanterns are lit, is the most atmospheric time. Do not block the ticket window or the entrance queue, and do not photograph inside the hall during performances.
