About
Sakura Jingu was founded in Kanda in 1882 by Yoshimura Masamochi, a former priest of Ise Jingu, as the head shrine of a Shinto sect, and moved to Setagaya in 1919. It is known for rites such as fire-walking (chinkashiki) and hot-water purification, which have drawn foreign visitors since the Meiji era. The pretty grounds are popular for seasonal goshuin and charms.
