About

Manrai has served Nishi-Shinjuku since 1961 and today occupies a corner behind Odakyu Halc, a few minutes from the West Exit. Its claim to fame is chashu: the chashu ramen arrives buried under thick, almost steak-like blocks of braised pork. Underneath is a sweet-savoury shoyu broth with a garlic edge and chunky, curly noodles. There is also a zaru ramen (cold noodles with a dipping sauce), a dish the shop has served for decades. Service is brisk and the room is noisy and cheerful, always half full of office workers. Come hungry.
