About

Nippon TV commissioned Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki to design a clock for its Shiodome headquarters, and the result, unveiled in 2006, looks like it walked out of Howl's Moving Castle: a copper-green and brass contraption roughly 12 m high and 18 m wide, covered in cannons, chimneys, little workshops and riveted plates. A few times a day it performs a short mechanical show in which figures emerge, bellows pump and gears turn. You view it from the Nittele Plaza on the 2F pedestrian deck, which puts you level with the lower half of the clock and gives a clean frame with a 24-70 mm lens. It is free, quick and loved by Ghibli fans.
