About

Mintei opened in 1964 and has fed generations of Shimokitazawa's theatre people, musicians and students. Its signature is the 'ra-chan', a bowl of Edokko ramen, a classic soy broth with thin noodles, alongside a half portion of fried rice tinted pink by the red-edged chashu chopped into it. The two-storey shop is cheerfully worn, the cooks work at speed and the lunch queue forms even on weekdays. In a neighbourhood that changes fast, Mintei is one of the constants and a great cheap meal before browsing the vintage shops.
