About

Marucho opened in Ogikubo in 1947, founded by a group of men from Nagano, and its offshoots and alumni shaped Tokyo ramen history: the Marucho family of shops spread across the Chuo Line and Seibu Shinjuku Line, and the founders of the Taishoken shops came out of the same circle. The Ogikubo shop is known for tsukesoba, springy noodles with a dipping broth that balances sweetness, vinegar tang and chilli heat, as well as an old-fashioned chuka soba with a fish-forward broth. It is a short walk from Ogikubo's south exit and makes a natural double bill with Harukiya on the north side for anyone tracing the story of Ogikubo ramen.
