About

Kinokuniya opened in Shinjuku in 1927, and its main store occupies a modernist 1964 building by architect Kunio Maekawa, now a Tokyo-designated historic building. Floors cover everything from manga and light novels to art, design and photography books, Japanese language learning materials and stationery. It's a great place to find beautiful Japanese art books and manga collector's editions. For English-language books, its Books Kinokuniya Tokyo branch at Takashimaya Times Square is the one to visit.
