About

Karaoke in Japan means a private soundproofed room for your group, not a public stage, and Karaoke Kan is one of the big national chains. Its Udagawacho branch, a short walk from the Scramble crossing, is where Sofia Coppola shot Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson's karaoke night in Lost in Translation (2003), and film fans still ask for the rooms used in the movie. Even without the cinema connection it's a reliable, central choice: rooms for two to twenty, huge song libraries with thousands of English titles, tambourines and maracas on the table, and drinks and fried snacks delivered to the door. Rates are charged per person per 30 minutes and climb in the evening; free-time (all-night) packages are good value after the last train. Bring ID if you want alcohol.
