About

Happy Road Oyama runs from Oyama Station on the Tobu Tojo Line toward Kawagoe-kaido under a bright arcade, and it is one of the busiest neighbourhood shopping streets in Tokyo, with tens of thousands of shoppers a day. Expect cut-price greengrocers, butchers frying croquettes, side-dish shops, drug stores, sushi and ramen counters, and an antenna shop selling produce from regional towns across Japan. Its fame among Tokyoites is for prices and energy rather than history, and walking it at dinner-shopping time is a lesson in how the city really eats. A redevelopment project is reshaping the station end, but the arcade remains the heart of Oyama.
