About

Opened in 1922 as a private garden and run by Arakawa City since 1950, Arakawa Yuen is the antithesis of Disneyland: small, cheap and aimed at local families. After a four-year renovation it reopened in 2022 with fresh rides, a slow-turning Ferris wheel with views of the Sumida River and Skytree, a mini rollercoaster, a sky cycle, a fishing pond and an animal area with goats, sheep and guinea pigs to pet, while keeping its retro charm. Tickets cost a few hundred yen and rides are priced individually or with a modest free pass. Arriving by the one-car Toden tram, which stops three minutes away, is half the fun, and on Friday and weekend evenings the park stays open into the night.
