Tsuruhashi Market 鶴橋市場
A labyrinth of narrow alleys by Tsuruhashi Station packed with kimchi shops, Korean groceries, hanbok tailors and dozens of smoky yakiniku restaurants. Osaka's yakiniku capital.
About
Tsuruhashi grew from a post-war black market into the centre of Osaka's large Korean community. The maze of covered alleys around the station sells kimchi by the kilo, banchan, Korean cosmetics, seafood and fabrics, and the smell of grilling meat greets you as soon as the train doors open, thanks to dozens of yakiniku and horumon (offal) restaurants. It is one of Osaka's most atmospheric and least polished neighbourhoods.
