Senbonmatsu Ohashi Bridge 千本松大橋
Osaka's "Megane-bashi": a high bridge over the Kizu River reached by double-decker spiral ramps that loop 720 degrees on each bank like a pair of spectacles.
About
Built in 1973 so that ships could pass underneath, Senbonmatsu Ohashi climbs high above the river via two-level spiral ramps on each side, which from above look like a pair of glasses: locals call it "megane-bashi". Pedestrians can walk the loops for a dizzying climb and wide views over the factories, the Kizu River and the Abeno Harukas and Osaka bay skylines. Below it, the free Senbonmatsu ferry still shuttles across the river for people who prefer not to climb.
Highlights
- Double-deck spiral ramps looping 720 degrees on each bank
