Nakazakicho 中崎町
A pocket of wooden pre-war houses a few minutes from Umeda's skyscrapers, converted into tiny vintage shops, galleries and indie cafes. Osaka's most photogenic hipster neighbourhood.
About
Nakazakicho survived the wartime bombing that flattened most of Umeda, so its narrow lanes are lined with old wooden nagaya row houses. Since the 2000s these have been taken over by vintage clothes shops, handmade accessory stores, record shops, small galleries and dozens of cafes serving cute desserts. Weekend afternoons draw young Osakans with cameras. It is a lovely, quiet contrast to Grand Front and the department stores.
