About
Kuchinawazaka ('snake slope', after its winding shape) climbs from Shitadera-machi up to Yuhigaoka, the 'sunset hill' of old Osaka. Stand at the bottom and shoot up the stone stairs between old walls and greenery, or from the top looking down, where a monument quotes writer Oda Sakunosuke. It feels like a pocket of old Japan in the middle of the city and is very quiet.
Highlights
- Winding stone stairs between temple walls
- One of the Seven Slopes of Tennoji
- Literary monument to Oda Sakunosuke
- Very few visitors
Tips
- Walk the neighbouring Aizenzaka and Gengozaka slopes too.
- Late afternoon light suits the 'sunset hill' setting.
- Keep noise down: it runs past temples and homes.
