Kitashinchi has been the city's upscale entertainment district since the Edo period. Today it is packed with discreet buildings filled with authentic cocktail and whisky bars, kappo restaurants and members-only clubs. For visitors, the highlights are classic Japanese cocktail bars with meticulous technique and deep whisky lists. Many bars have cover charges and some are introduction-only, but plenty welcome walk-in guests, especially early in the evening.
