Hokkyokusei Shinsaibashi Honten 北極星 心斎橋本店
The birthplace of omurice (1925): tatami rooms in an old Japanese house where fluffy omelettes wrap ketchup rice, a short walk from the neon of Shinsaibashi.
About
Hokkyokusei began in 1922 as Pan-ya no Shokudo, and in 1925 the owner wrapped ketchup rice in an omelette for a regular with a weak stomach, giving the world omurice. The Shinsaibashi main shop is in a traditional wooden house with a garden, and you eat sitting on tatami at low tables, an unexpected contrast to the food. Choose from a long list of fillings (chicken, ham, mushroom, beef, seafood) and sauces. Prices are reasonable, and it is a great option for families and picky eaters.
