Nara Hotel 奈良ホテル
Classic 1909 hotel on a hill above Nara Park, designed by Tatsuno Kingo, once the region's quasi state guest house.
About
The Nara Hotel opened in October 1909 on a low hill where a sub-temple of Kofuku-ji, Daijo-in, once stood. Its main building, by Tatsuno Kingo and Kataoka Yasushi, is a wooden two-storey building with a tiled roof that mixes Japanese temple forms with Western hotel planning. For much of the pre-war era it was run by the state railways and served as a guest house for royalty and state visitors in the Kansai region. The main building has been recommended for designation as an Important Cultural Property. Even without staying, you can see the lobby and lounge over lunch or tea.
