About
Toji-in was founded by Ashikaga Takauji, the first Ashikaga shogun, and became the family temple of the line. Its hall holds wooden statues of the Ashikaga shoguns, and the gardens attributed to Muso Soseki surround two ponds with a small tea house. It sees far fewer visitors than nearby Kinkaku-ji and Ryoan-ji. Matcha can be taken while looking over the garden.
