About

Tai Sushi is one of downtown Kyotos old-school town sushi shops, run by a couple for more than half a century from a 17-seat counter on a side street near Shijo Kawaramachi. The daily recommended eight-piece set is the order: generous slices on small rice balls, with the house negima-jiru (tuna and leek soup) that regulars rave about. It feels like the neighbourhood sushi bar Kyoto residents grew up with, and is an antidote to the 30,000 yen Gion counters a few blocks away.
