Shopping Street · Downtown (Shinkyogoku)
Shinkyogoku Shopping Street 新京極商店街
Kyoto's lively covered arcade for souvenirs, snacks, school-trip trinkets, purikura and pop culture, running parallel to Teramachi between Shijo and Sanjo.
About
Shinkyogoku was created in 1872 as an entertainment street and still has the busiest, youngest atmosphere in downtown Kyoto. It is packed with souvenir and accessory shops, sweet stalls, crepe stands, Animate and other anime shops, game arcades, sticker-photo booths and cheap eateries, as well as a few temples like Seiganji and Nishikitenmangu. School groups on trips throng here in the day, and it stays lively until evening.
