About
Konkai Komyo-ji, known locally as Kurodani-san, is one of the head temples of the Jodo sect, founded where Honen first built a hermitage. Its imposing Sanmon gate and main hall sit on a rise with views west to the city. In the 1860s it served as headquarters of the Aizu domain, which oversaw the Shinsengumi. The grounds and cemetery paths are free to explore.
