About

Hokaiji was the family temple of the Hino branch of the Fujiwara clan and is linked to Shinran, founder of Jodo Shinshu, who was born nearby. The Amida Hall houses a gilded Amida Buddha in the style of Byodoin's, with faded wall paintings. Each January the Hino Hadaka Odori is held on the hall's veranda.
