Suma Beach 須磨海水浴場
Kobes city beach, 15 minutes from Sannomiya, with 1.8 km of sand, a summer beach-hut scene and the redeveloped Suma Seaside Park and Kobe Suma Sea World orca aquarium behind it.
About
Suma has been a seaside resort since the Heian period, when it appeared in The Tale of Genji, and today it is the main beach for Kobe residents. The beach runs about 1.8 km, with lifeguarded swimming and beach huts in July and August, and a long promenade for walks with views of Awaji Island and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Behind it, Suma Seaside Park was fully rebuilt and reopened in 2024, including Kobe Suma Sea World, the only orca aquarium in western Japan.
