At the centre of Usuki's samurai quarter is the Nioza Historic Road, a winding 200 m lane cut through rock and lined with temple walls and old houses. Hacchō-ōji, a parallel shopping street, sells sweets, crafts and local soy products, and Ryugenji's three-storey pagoda is nearby.
