Kamenoi Bessou 亀の井別荘
Yufuin's legendary ryokan beside Lake Kinrin: thatched and timbered detached cottages in a wooded garden, founded as a villa in 1921 and a pillar of Yufuin's quiet-resort philosophy.
About
Kamenoi Bessou began as a private villa built by Beppu tourism pioneer Aburaya Kumahachi in the early 1920s and grew into the inn that defined Yufuin: low-rise, rural, deeply crafted. Detached rooms (hanare) with their own baths are scattered through a mossy, tree-filled garden, while the main building offers more modest rooms. The kaiseki cuisine uses local produce, and the property's Kagiya shop, Tenjo Sajiki cafe, Bar Yamaneko and Yunodakean restaurant mean non-guests can taste the atmosphere too. Along with Tamanoyu it's one of Yufuin's two most famous ryokan.
