About

Owakudani was created by an eruption of Mt. Hakone about 3,000 years ago and still releases sulphurous steam. A short trail and the observation area near the ropeway station overlook the vents, and on clear days Mt. Fuji rises behind the valley. Kuro-tamago, eggs blackened by boiling in the spring water, are the local snack.
