About

Opened in 2000 in TOPPAN's Koishikawa headquarters and renovated in 2020, the museum traces how printing shaped communication, from ancient seals and the 8th-century Hyakumanto Darani, among the oldest surviving printed texts in the world, through Edo-period woodblock books, Meiji newspapers and posters, to digital printing. The P&P Gallery stages design exhibitions; autumn 2026 features Modern Japan Package 2026 (Oct 17 to Jan 17, 2027) on packaging design. Best of all is the Printing Studio, a working letterpress workshop with cases of metal type where visitors can join short sessions setting and printing cards. Note that the general exhibition may be closed while temporary exhibitions run, and some facilities need reservations.
