About

Visitors to Kichijoji stick to Sun Road arcade and Harmonica Yokocho. Locals head down Nakamichi-dori, a narrow street that runs about a kilometre west from behind Tokyu department store towards Nishi-Kichijoji. Its first stretch has fashion and sneaker shops. Further west it becomes a calm row of independent shops selling handmade ceramics, linen clothing, picture books, antiques and plants, with small bakeries and cafés tucked between them. Side lanes lead to secondhand bookshops and galleries. It is the best street in Kichijoji for slow, browsing shopping, and it shows why Tokyoites keep voting Kichijoji the place they'd most like to live.
