About

Terminal 1, home to JAL and Skymark domestic flights, has a large free open-air observation deck reached from the 6th floor. It faces west and south over the apron where JAL's red-tailed fleet parks nose-in, with departures and arrivals on the runways beyond. Because it looks westward, late afternoon brings silhouettes of aircraft against the sunset, and on clear winter days Mt Fuji appears on the horizon. Photographers favour it for long-lens shots of jets at the gate and for night shots of illuminated taxiways. It is quieter than the international deck at Terminal 3 and makes a good stop if you are early for a domestic flight or simply want a free plane-watching outing.
