Ramen & Noodles · Yoyogi / Shinjuku South
Fuunji 風雲児
Arguably Tokyo's most beloved tsukemen: thick noodles dunked in a viscous chicken-and-fish broth, dusted with fish powder. A tiny counter near Shinjuku's south side with a permanent queue.
Tokusei tsukemen: ¥1,400
About
Fuunji serves tori-gyokai tsukemen: thick, chewy wheat noodles served cold or warm with a concentrated dipping broth of chicken and dried fish, finished with a heap of katsuobushi powder. The ramen version (same broth, thinner) is excellent too. It seats around 15 at an L-shaped counter, and the queue snakes down the side street most of the day. Regular, medium and large noodle portions cost the same. At the end, ask for soup-wari: hot broth poured into your remaining dip to drink like soup.

- Thick, creamy chicken-and-seafood dipping broth with fish powder
- Free noodle upsize (same price for regular to large)
